Environmental Analysis Associates, Inc. has issued a report on a comparison study between the AirTrap XL, Air-O-Cell, and upcoming AirTrap Mini cassettes. This is the first assessment into the collection efficiency of the new AirTrap cassettes from Apacor, comparing them to the industry standard cassette, Zefon/Environmental Express Air-O-Cell.
Study Details
The study was conducted over two sampling dates, September 20, 2024 and November 12, 2024 A series of 5 Side-by-side samples were collected inside a basement of a home with a known moderate level of airborne mold spore concentrations on each date. Samples were collected on tripods approximately 1” apart on identical sampling pumps. Pumps were calibrated at 15 LPM and samples were collected for 5 minutes, generating a 75L sample volume to mirror the most common sample volume for spore trap cassettes.
Study Conclusion
The data from the study showed that based on the coefficient of variation (CV) for total mold spore concentration that all three sampling cassettes should be considered statistically equivalent. This is great news for anyone currently using or considering using the Air Trap cassettes! The data also showed that there is a slightly higher collection trend for all mold spores with the AirTrap XL.
